January 20th to January 26th
PUSD contracts with ATI Fire Restoration to conduct full campus remediation at Odyssey campus. This entails interior cleaning of all surfaces, HEPA vacuuming of all floor surfaces, wet wiping of all spaces, HVAC duct cleaning, indoor HVAC air filter replacement, exterior wall and floors pressure washed.
January 27th
PUSD contracts with EnviroCheck who collects 27 samples for Combustion By-Product (CBP) Testing. 27 different samples are collected (Random sample of classrooms and surfaces are sampled including bookcases, desks, window sills, bookshelves, classroom rugs, classroom carpets, etc). The sampling is looking for evidence of soot, char, and ash. Testing Results were published by PUSD on 01/28/2025; results report none of the 27 samples found any evidence of soot, char, or ash.

Researchers from JPL/Caltech placed instruments to measure and monitor indoor and outdoor air quality on campus. Results of data collected were presented on May 2, 2025 during a Caltech Air Quality & Health Webinar. No evidence of any particulate matter was found during the data collection period. Instruments remained on campus for ongoing monitoring through July 25, 2025.
March 20th
Researchers from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health placed indoor and outdoor air quality and VOC monitoring equipment at the Odyssey Campus. The two week data collection period found no evidence of particulate matter nor VOC’s in indoor or outdoor air samples. Chamber testing of soft goods from classrooms found evidence of VOC’s during the off-gassing period. Researchers advised to clean and sanitize items before use; OCS Leadership opted to remove and dispose all area rugs, cushions, pillows, stuffed animals/plush toys, and curtains. Results of this research can be found here.

PUSD informs that soil samples were collected for testing from the Odyssey campus. The samples collected were tested for heavy metals including: Arsenic, Asbestos fibers, Cadmium, Chromium ,Copper, Lead, Nickel, and Zinc. A subset of samples based on location and sensitive areas, approximately 25% per campus, were selected for analysis of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), Dioxins, and Furans.
May 14th
PUSD publicly shares the results of the soil testing conducted at the Odyssey campus. No evidence of any heavy metals or other contaminants were found among the 17 soil samples collected on the campus.
June 23rd & 24th
EnviroCheck is contracted by Odyssey Charter Schools to conduct a second round of Combustion By-Product (CBP) Testing and also adds further testing specifically for lead and asbestos particulates. EnviroCheck was selected for their previous testing on campus and for having prior data set to use as comparison points. The laboratory analysis is anticipated to take two weeks (July 10) and the final results to become available no later than July 25th.
July 15th
Results of the second round of testing at the Odyssey campus is received from EnviroCheck. These results find no evidence of combustion by-products, nor asbestos. Lead Dust Concentration Testing Results found lead was present in several outdoor areas on campus, but were below the acceptable limits as indicated by the US Environmental Protection Agency, and California Regulatory Levels for Lead Abatement Clearance. The California Environmental Protection Agency published a Fact Sheet regarding lead contamination to provide additional information regarding the presence of lead.
July 16th
A meeting was held with two Certified Industrial Hygienists to learn more about the results of the various tests conducted on campus in June. The hygienists indicated none of the levels found in any of the testing results posed hazards or dangers on the campus, and concurred with our decision to conduct lead abatement and re-testing after abatement on campus.
July 30th & 31st
ATI Restoration was contracted by Odyssey Charter Schools to complete lead abatement on the Odyssey campus in the outdoor areas where lead was found. Further testing was conducted; post-abatement testing results show abatement efforts were effective in removing elevated levels of lead.
July 30th
Odyssey Charter Schools contracted with EnviroCheck to conduct additional environmental testing for beryllium and hydrogen cyanide at both the Odyssey and OCS- South campuses. Sampling is scheduled to occur the week of August 11th with results anticipated ten days later.
