Odyssey Charter Schools
Campus Health and Safety

The safety of our school community is our top priority.

Guided by resilience, care and responsibility, we consistently maintain high standards to protect the health and wellbeing of our students. The documents and resources below reflect this ongoing work and accountability.

Eaton Fire Campus Safety Protocols

In the wake of the Eaton Fire, we have conducted extensive testing and will continue testing and reporting as conditions evolve. Review the results and a detailed timeline below.

We prioritize secure campuses, well-defined emergency preparedness plans and clear communication strategies. Access control and visitor management include secured campuses with controlled gate and buzzer entry. Our emergency preparedness plan outlines clear procedures for reunification, evacuation, shelter-in-place and coordinated emergency communication.

We encourage families to keep their contact information updated, download and use Parent Square and always have a family plan.

Health Policy Guidelines and Resources

Strong research links nutrition, physical activity and hydration to student wellbeing and academic success, guiding Odyssey’s approach to fostering healthy habits, active lifestyles and supportive environments across the school community.

Eaton Fire Disaster

On January 7, 2025, Odyssey leadership secured both campuses in response to high winds before the Eaton Fire ignited and spread through Altadena. By January 8, Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) confirmed the OCS-South campus was destroyed, while the Odyssey campus remained intact.

In the weeks that followed, Odyssey leadership evaluated more than 20 temporary school locations, coordinated full remediation at the remaining Odyssey campus and initiated environmental testing, including combustion by-product (CBP) sampling, to support a safe return to learning.

United in Response

We extend our sincere thanks to EnviroCheck, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology (Caltech), UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), Air Tro Inc., ATI Restoration and MARS Environmental for their partnership in comprehensive environmental testing and response efforts. From air quality and soil analysis to combustion byproducts, wildfire smoke and metals testing, their expertise guided critical assessments and informed each step forward.

Expert Partners in Environmental Review

We are equally grateful to the ArtCenter College of Design, Boys & Girls Club and One Colorado for opening their doors and providing a temporary home during the spring 2025 semester. Throughout our response, we adhered to standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), ensuring every decision prioritized the health and safety of our students and broader community.

Transparency and Accountability

Odyssey maintains required policies, reporting and oversight structures to ensure alignment with applicable regulations. Review related documentation and materials on our Compliance page.
