Odyssey Parent Participation Group (OPPG)

The Odyssey Parent Participation Group (OPPG) is a volunteer group working exclusively on behalf of all children at Odyssey Charter School (OCS).

What OPPG can do for YOU:

  • Offer many different opportunities to participate in your child’s education.
  • Provide a place to meet other parents and discuss parent and school ideas or questions.
  • Help your concerns be heard by Staff and/or the Odyssey Governing Board.
  • Bring in and/or support current and new programs for our children.
  • Give you a voice in deciding where money raised should be spent.

What YOU can do for OPPG:

  • Attend at least 2 of the 5 OPPG meetings during the year. Meet other families, hear what is going on at school, and find out what you can do to help.
  • Volunteer for events. The more parents that volunteer, the more successful our school is.
  • Read information sent home in your Thursday Packets, and make sure you are part of the OCS Yahoo Group. If you are not getting OCS emails through Yahoo, please check in with Mia, OPPG Chair, at Shoetopia@gmail.com.

Please contact a member of the OPPG Leadership at any time with questions or comments. Also, please join us at our OPPG meetings.

Meet our OPPG Leadership:

Mia Picerno, Chair

Shoetopia@gmail.com

This is our fifth year at Odyssey and our children are currently in the 1st and 4th grades. Odyssey has been an amazing experience for our children and our family. As chair I hope to facilitate communication among parents, guardians, staff, and students and help families find ways to contribute to Odyssey that work best for them.

Jillian Pierson, Secretary

We seized the OCS third-grade opening for our daughter last year; we've been very happy with our decision to move Quinn here. One of the elements I believe makes a huge contribution to school quality is parent involvement. I am glad therefore to have the opportunity to take on a role with OPPG and play a part in the OCS community.

This is our third year at Odyssey. Our daughter is in 5th grade, and our son is in 7th grade.
We have been inspired and impressed by many things at OCS - one of them being the degree to which the school communicates with and responds to the parent groups. Participating in OPPG gives me the opportunity to have a direct and concrete impact on my children's education.
