The Odyssey Charter School staff welcome the newest members of our faculty- Ms. Hanna Thielin and Ms. Cheryl Lee.
Ms. Hanna Thielin joins the Odyssey faculty as our new kindergarten teacher in Room A. During this summer, Ms. Hanna relocated from her native Nebraska to Southern California and spent several weeks anticipating the arrival of our students. While aslo familiarizing herself to her new neighborhood, she spent several weeks learning about The Responsive Classroom, Reader's & Writer's Workshop and many of the unique features of our school. Hanna’s favorite part of teaching kindergarten is watching students discover new things through exploration and experimentation. She also enjoys helping students develop into more confident and independent learners by the end of the year.
Hanna earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa, where she studied Elementary Education and Social Studies. Hanna enjoys traveling, and has taught English abroad in China. In her free time, she enjoys crafting and painting furniture, exploring the city, going to the beach, hiking, and spending time outside.
Ms. Cheryl Lee joins our faculty as our 6th grade Reading, Math, & Science teacher. Over the past months, Ms. Lee has been familiarizing herself with our community, faulty, staff, and curriculum. In her first few weeks on campus, Ms. Lee was part of an intense professional development week with the 6th through 8th grade team who spent five days discussing, deliberating, and developing a plan for their curriculum. This week allowed teachers to collaborate and identify areas of strength and opportunities for further growth and learning for our students. As a result of this, Ms. Lee is ready to take on the many opportunities ahead in 6th grade!
Ms. Lee recieved her Master's degree and Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from University of Southern California, during which she completed her student teaching at a Title I public school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Prior to working at Odyssey Charter School, Ms. Lee worked at UCLA Medicine as an Administrative Assistant. Although she is originally from the Silicon Valley, she moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA for undergraduate studies in Psychology and minor in Applied Developmental Psychology. In her spare time, Ms. Lee loves reading, hiking, spending time with her dog Maddie, discovering new restaurants, and driving around and exploring Los Angeles.
