On-Site Before & After-School Programs

Dear Parents of Odyssey Charter School students,
We are pleased to announce that CHAMPIONS has been selected by the Odyssey Charter School administration to run the on-site BEFORE & after- school program for your children. We are eager to share our enthusiasm and experience in after-school programming. You will find our program to be excitingly unique and educational.
Our qualified staff ensures that CHAMPIONS programs are positive experiences for students, staff, and parents. Our staff is comprised of a group of highly qualified childcare professionals from diverse backgrounds in teaching, coaching, and after-school programming. This range of experience expands our ability to reach the spectrum from academics to athletics, socialization skills to memorable fun.
CHAMPIONS strives to create experiences in which students feel safe to explore new ideas about self and community, programs in which parents feel confident that their child is learning in a positive environment and manner. Our goal is to build and deliver safe, organized, and educational programs.
We appreciate the opportunity to share our motivation and method. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us at Info@ChampionsUSA.com or 310-671-4400. We look forward to working with your children.
Thank you,
Gary S. Lipsky

The Odyssey On-Site After-School Program
The staff will consist of a CHAMPIONS after-school Director and several after-school specialists. There will be a maximum of a 12:1 student to teacher ratio. Therefore, if there are thirty-six children enrolled in the program, there will be at least three after-school staff to supervise.
The director will oversee all children enrolled and curriculum associated with the after-school program. Every child must sign in with the appropriate CHAMPIONS staff each day and their parent or legal guardian must sign them out at the end of every day. This process might seem tedious to you but it comes down to accountability. Please help us in implementing this system.
The afternoon will be broken up into several segments. Check-in will last from 2:30 pm - 3:00pm Tuesday- Thursday and 1:15pm- 1:45 pm Mondays, during which children will have free time in a supervised area. They can play sports, group games, read, or independent play with-in the designated CHAMPIONS room. From 3:00-3:20 pm a healthy snack will be provided (1:45 - 2:05pm Mondays).
Free time will be followed by "Club Time" (3:20pm-4:20pm), an integral part of the after-school program's educational value. This segment's goal is to merge Odyssey Charter School's standards and curriculum into a hand's on experiential learning experience. Each day "clubs" will be offered to the students. Clubs will include any range of educational activities from math to sports clinics, painting to physics, drama to dance, cultural arts and crafts to new books, mural teams to community service groups. Our diverse staff guarantees that each student's strength will be identified and a club will be offered to develop that strength. At the same time, by offering so many different clubs it is our goal to develop strong resilient youth who are well rounded and see education as fun!
From 4:20-5:20pm, staff will monitor and provide assistance during homework time. For students with no homework, educational games or other age appropriate activities will be given. Quiet reading time will be an option for students whose parents prefer homework to be done at home. To teach responsibility, remaining students will help staff clean up including returning supplies to appropriate place, cleaning up from snack, etc at 5:20pm. From 5:30-6:00pm students will participate in free play and finish up with club time activities. All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m. You will be charged $1 for every minute you are late past 6:00 p.m.
The Odyssey On-Site Before-School Program
The before-school program will run from 7am-8am. Existing Odyssey Charter School teaching assistance will be trained and managed by CHAMPIONS to run daily clubs as described under "Club Time" above. Each month will have an educational theme and daily activities for both before and after school will be supplemented with specialty days and activities; rockwalls, field trips, visiting programs, etc.
CHAMPIONS will be requiring a minimum of 30 students to enroll in the after school program and 10 students in the before school by SEPTEMBER 1, 2007 to run this program. Ensure your spot and that the program meets its minimum requirements by turning this form into Rachelle Martinez at Odyssey Charter School ASAP!
Both of these forms need to be filled out, signed and turned in to enroll in this program
