Summertime
September 18, 2009
I had a neat summer. My family and I visited my brother in the Bay Area and he took us to the new California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. The museum was recently redone, and it now boasts the claim as being the “greenest” museum in the entire world. One neat fact about the museum is that it uses recycled denim as insulation for the building. The museum had a cool evolution exhibit. It also had a simulated rainforest – the windy path of the exhibit took us past poisonous tree frogs, native plants, and flying butterflies with unique colors and markings, all the way up to the 4th floor of the emergent rainforest.
This summer I played more golf then I ever had. I’m improving. It’s such a frustrating game, but I appreciate it because it teaches stick-to-itiveness and patience.
Later in the summer we went to Chicago. The weather was great. We took a boat ride down the Chicago River and learned about the architecture of the city – from the early 20th century to the present. We also went to the 103rd floor of the Sears Tower (now known as the Willis Tower) and stepped out onto the newly built Sky Deck – a glass cube that extends out from the building. It was an eerie but neat feeling standing out in the glass cube – it was like being suspended in animation.
