Room A Newsletter!

April 15, 2010
Dear Families,
I am so happy to be back. I certainly miss my little one, but I missed your little ones a whole lot and am excited to have a trimester of fun and learning. We will have a busy trimester getting ready for first grade!
We started the week with talking about different combinations through boxes of apples (what are all the different combinations of red and green apples you could have in a box of 5 or 10 apples?). We have also begun counting by 5s.
I’ve been conferencing with each reader and am amazed at how much progress they have made! If you notice your child needs a conference with me (i.e. the books they are taking home are too hard or too easy), please let me know!
We are talking about characters, settings, and beginning, middle, and end in our fiction stories. This week has been spent telling stories orally with these elements.
Our classroom is also host to hatching caterpillars and praying mantis’! We are so excited to watch how they grow and change in the classroom.

**Please sign up to help wash towels and/or clean the classroom on Fridays.
Upcoming events:
  • Earth Day, Thursday, April 22, 8:30-2:00 (please check your email for information on how you can volunteer/help)! It promises to be a very fun day!
  • OPPG Dance Away, Friday, April 23, 6-8:30 pm

Charity Marketplace
Charity Marketplace is coming up in June! For this wonderful event, each class makes a product (or products) and sells them. The profits go to various charities. If any of you have ideas of things to make with the children (last year, parent volunteers came in to make clay-covered pens with the class), please let me know!
Wish List:
·         rolls of tape
·         staplers
·         Outdoor toys for students to play with during recess, including sand toys, balls, hula hoops, speed boats.
