History and Growth

Odyssey Charter School opened its doors in September 1999 with 240 students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grades in a church facility located directly across the street from Pasadena City College. The opening of Odyssey came as a result of the commitment and dedication of teachers and community members to creating a nurturing learning environment where student choice and diverse learning styles were honored, celebrated, and cultivated in the classroom.

Odyssey was the first charter school in the state of California to be approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Education (LACOE) and was re-chartered for another five years by LACOE in April 2004, and again in March 2009. Our current charter was approved in February 2014, and will allow Odyssey to continue operating through June 2019.

Since our opening in 1999, we have grown our enrollment and classrooms to our current enrollment of 480 students. In current classroom configuration, we have two Kindergarten classrooms, four 1st & 2nd grade classrooms, four 3rd & 4th grade classrooms, two  5th grade classrooms, and two  6th grade classrooms. Our middle school is comprised of  four  7th & 8th  grade classrooms, each with a teacher focusing on one core curricular area: Humanities-Language Arts, Humanities-History/Social Science, Mathematics, and Science.
